Prayer

Prayer is an important aspect of the Christian experience and life. Prayer is communication with God, and as such is two-way. It involves our speaking to God, and our waiting and listening for his answer and instruction. It is not just asking God for favors because we have been good children. Our prayers depend upon the grace of God and his plan for our life. The old teacher has learned that prayer that is specific in nature, as opposed to generalities, is answered more often in a positive fashion. God always answers prayer. Sometimes he says yes. Sometimes he says no. He also says wait upon me and see what I'll do.

God blesses intercessory prayer, apparently because it almost always depends upon his actions. I've learned that when I have a major need, God often manages my need when I pray for others.

Prayer should involve Thanksgiving and praise. We do have so much to praise God for and it would benefit us by making us conscious of these things.

Our prayers should be short and to the point. God already knows what we have need of, and wants us to pray to make us conscious of his actions, and to make us part of his plan.

We suggest careful reading of the following scriptures which are Christ's instruction in relation to prayer.

Matthew chapter 6.

Vs. 5: And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6: But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7: But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8: Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

9: After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10: Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11: Give us this day our daily bread.

12: And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

The Bible also tells us that he is with us when two or more gathered together in his name, and states that he wants us to pray together
